Lodger Advice Needed

Hi.
Nearly two years ago, I took in a friend who had nowhere else to go. It was temporary until she sorted herself out (I know, they all say that) and I stupidly didn't put anything down in writing.
Four months ago, I gave her five months notice to leave, so I can sell my house. Five weeks to go, and there's no real evidence of her moving.
Any advice welcomed.

    I think you were daft giving her 5 months notice but what's done is done. Once the notice period is up just change the locks. In the meantime just ask her how the house hunting is going and if she needs you to provide a reference.

    Is she a lodger? Is there a paper trail of rent into your account? Was she simply a friend who you gave a temporary roof over her head or is she in a financial relationship with you?

    She may have certain rights depending on how this works out; they may be very weak rights or might be strong.

    Can you be more specific about what exists in writing or in bank accounts about this setup. :o

    If you share living space with your landlord, you're likely to have an excluded licence, and will therefore have a right to 'reasonable' notice. There are no set rules about what is reasonable.

    Have a conversation with her. Ask if she has found somewhere yet and explain locks will be being changed on x date.
