Name of pipe
Hi And thanks for reading this thread.
I purchased a used gas heater for the living room and am wanting to find out what the pipe is called that lets gas into the heater.
It is usually of metal construction, silver in colour, and runs from the gas inlet thingy (sorry, i don't know what the exact name is ), then underneath the heater and allows gas to flow into the heater.
I contacted a plumber and he acted mystfied, like he had no idea what i am talking about.
Perhaps these pipes come with the heater so there is no need to purchase them seperatly. Me buying the heater second hand, i did not check if the pipe was there.
Many thanks.

Hi,
is it a radiator or gas fire, can you stick a photie up?0 -
I hope you aren't planning on installing it yourself?
A registered gas installer will know what pipe to bring , having assessed your property for installation and, safety checked the heaterThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi. It is a gas fire, i don't have a photo of the actual gas pipe itself and have gone through google images but cannot find it.
But i have seen it in every single home i have ever visited. A metal, silver coloured pipe that attaches underneath the gas heater and allows gas to flow into the heater.
Thanks!0 -
This is job for a GAS SAFE engineer - consult the link https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk to find an engineer in your area.
Don't be surprised if he/she refuses to connect the fire - there are many issues inc the flue and ventilation.
DON'T ATTEMPT TO DIYNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi,
so like this,
As already said you will need a gas safe engineer to fit it for you, not a diy job.0 -

Thanks!
I don't know how to insert an image, it just keeps saying to enter address, so here it is: https://www.toolstation.com/gas-restrictor-kit-chrome/p71844
You can see the inlet gas thingy that supplies the gas, then there is the silver pipe with a nut on the end.0 -
The silver pipe with nut on end is called in the post above a Restrictor tube. Just Google that if you do not need all the fittings. And it's not a gas heater you have it's a gas fire. You need gas engineer. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0

OP - As others have rightly said, do NOT even consider installing it yourself.
A second hand fire will certainly need checking and installing by an RGI (Gas Safe)0 -
Thanks!
The restrictor tubes all have the nut at the end fixed onto the tube. What is the name of the tube where the nut is not fixed.0
