Bristol Energy - avoid like the plague!

Hi All

Just a warning about Bristol Energy...I switched elsewhere two months ago and they are refusing to produce a final bill or refund my approx. £230 credit balance.

There is an unspecified problem with my final meter readings which they refuse to give a deadline for fixing.

They also refuse to provide me with a deadlock letter to send to the ombudsman.

I've heard that they are on the brink of going bust and think they are probably hanging on to customers' money because of that.

I'm currently seeking legal advice but would advise MSE peeps to avoid Bristol Energy!

It's likely to be a problem with the weird third party system that validates the closing reading and makes sure it's the same as the opening reading with the new supplier, so it may not be Bristol Energy's fault

Although it's very irritating, don't be too hasty.

I would go to the Ombudsman anyway. I did, despite not having a deadlock letter, when Eversmart said it was refusing to honour my fixed price deal, despite that being written into my contract.

I just supplied the Ombudsman with all the evidence I had (contract, emails back and forward etc.) and they accepted that and gave a positive verdict.

Bear in mind that other threads report that people are successfully getting their banks to refund their past Direct Debit payments under the Direct Debit guarantee. If you paid by DD, you give this a try.
