last night I saw an ad for snackcrate, the ad claimed that it was £1 for the first box, and you could cancel anytime so i thought "why not, i'll have a £1 box and then just cancel it"
so i signed up to it, paid £1 using my monzo account
then for some reason decided to have a read through the comments section on facebook where I saw the ad, and someone had put a link in to trustpilot where almost every review was 1 star, all saying it's a scam they have a £15 cancellation fee, and you are signed up to a 6 month contract at £25 per box!
this morning I had a look on my snackcrate account page, and found a link to cancel it, and there are no fees? so I'm not sure if the reveiws are old and they have changed the policy since then, or maybe because I havent received a box yet that I could cancel without the fee?
but anyway, the point of this post is to ask this question:
if there was a high cancellation fee to pay, could I just close my monzo account?

It would be much easier to just cancel your card, instead of closing the bank account.
The point remains that you might be still liable for the payment depending on the T&C you agreed to. Maybe it's time to actually read them instead of comments on the internet. The merchant may chase the debt. How likely it's to happen is anyone's guess.0 -
I'd recommend contacting Monzo and ask them to block all future payments to this particular merchant, rather than closing your account. As above however, this wouldn't remove any obligation to pay if you've signed up to a contract of some sort, but it'd be down to the merchant to chase you for that, not your bank.
Probably a good idea to chalk it up as a life lesson in making sure to read things before you click "accept". I'd trust the information directly available from snackcrate rather than comments on Facebook or similar though, particularly any info the agreement you signed up to as that is what you will be bound by.0 -

Cancelling the card wont stop the CPA being taken.0 -

well i've read the t's & c's on the snackcrate website, theres no mention of the cancellation fee, so i'm not sure what all the comments on trustpilot were about.
I have cancelled my subscription with them now, and there was no mention of the fee.
reason I was suggesting cancelling the monzo account is i was just about to delete the thing anyway, i've got no ties to it and I don't need it. used it because there was a couple of quid left in it and the trial box was only £1.0 -
Maybe use the Monzo account as a switch donor account and go to one paying a switch incentive?0

Anything that has a regular debit is a CPA.
Saved card details is where you purchase from the co as and when you want. AKA Amazon
So excuse my scepticism to the statement that anything with regular debit is a CPA and can't be stopped by cancelling the card associated with it.
I would definitely use the account as a donor, instead of outright closing it.0
