Unexpected extra gift to buy, ideas needed

Ok here goes basically a friend of my hubs has recently split from his wife.Hubs known him for years through fishing but ive only met him a few times...always very polite, quiet, and by all accounts according to everyone else that knows him is a genuinely decent guy, anyway the breakup isnt at all amicable long story so ive taken pity on him and cooked his tea a couple of times and invited him up Xmas night for a few beers bite to eat etc.Really want to get him a little something to unwrap as he is having a hard time but cant really afford much as i hadnt planned for him. Hubs no help at all  So far i have bought him a fishing journal from Ebay, found a mug in the back of the cupboard with holly motif on so will fill with sweets etc ,also bought a pack of handwarmers from the pound shop but now im stuck could do with a couple of extra bits but no idea so im hoping you clever lot can give me some help.No idea re fave drink, other hobbies etc
Thanks in advance

    Xmas Saver!
At the end of the day that fact that you have invited him to come round xmas ngt shows what a genuine lovely person you are.

I noticed you said fishing, what about a hip flask £1.00 in poundland and if you look on freebies thread, theres a thred for free minature scotch whisky.

    Hope that helps x

What about making a mini hamper of home baked goodies? There are some recipes like shortbread cut into festive shapes, and dipped in chocolate, that wouldn't be expensive at all to make. You could wrap them up in cellophane and ribbon quite cheaply.

If he's just split from his wife, he might be missing home made treats?

I think he'll appreciate whatever you get him anyway - it's really nice of you and OH to make sure he doesn't end up lonely over the festive season. :T

re: the hip flask, if the whisky doesn't pan out, you could make him some chilli vodka, if you think he might like the heat.. guaranteed to warm you up on a nippy day! just buy some chillis, short fat red or green ones if you want it mild, birds eye (thin and short) or scotch bonnets if you want it very hot. Whatever you do, handle the chillis carefully, especially the scotch bonnets. if you want more info, yell.

Home made treats definitely! :) Although company through the holidays will probably mean more to him than any present you could buy so well done you :)
