Chances of getting a 0% purchase credit card?

Options
Hi guys,

So I need to spend £1,200 on car insurance and am looking to follow the advice to get a 0% on purchases credit card to avoid being hit for the interest if paying in instalments.

My question is, am I realistically going to be granted such a card (with a £1,200+ limit) in my current circumstances? I wouldn't want to rack up too many failed applications on my credit report.

I'm a 22-year-old UK national and recent graduate earning less than £20k. I've lived at the same address all my life and am on the electoral role. But I've little credit history and marginally overstepped my current account overdraft a few times when I was a student.

Would it be completely unrealistic to expect to be able to get a card with 9-12 months 0% on purchases? If so, what sort of credit card could I realistically expect to get?

Thanks

Give an application a bash and see what they say....... Have you spoken to your bank? They might give you a 0% deal or a LOB rate....
  • £1200 car insurance for a 22 year old is quite common.

two quick tips, find one on the credit card board with a not so prestigous lender (someone like capital one will snap you up i am sure), then either pay it off as quick as poss or move it to a balance transfer before the interest free runs out

of the 0% purchase cards, halifax and hsbc do what you are looking for

or alternatively see if any insurers will do interest free repayments, virgin money do :D
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

all your base are belong to us
  • If you don't have much luck with the afore mentioned cards you could maybe try mint or egg, apparently they're more lenient for first timers than others (my other half just got a mint card with a huge limit and he's in a very similar position to you). These only offer 6 months on purchases but I guess you could always transfer half way through the year.
  • mint is good I got a mint card when i was 21.
Just now Marks and Spencer and Halifax have good offers!
    Must be a nice car!!!
