Alexa will listen to you. All the time. She'll record what you say, every syllable and fart.

According to some reports she'll even send recordings to housewives in Eastern Europe who will write out transcripts of your conversations.

Personally I prefer to know who's in the room listening to me...... but then I'm paranoid!

And yes, I've taped over the camera on my laptop. What's good enough for Mark Zuckerberg is good enough for me!

Only the security services could answer that, and as they are trained to lie, would you believe their answer....

Of course only those who are up to anything dodgy in their daily lives would worry about recordings...

Nope, some of us just like our privacy. Rapidly eroding though it is.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

There's only me and the cat living here

If some spy - wherever they may be- wants to listen to our conversations and has an interest in my choice of music (all I use Alexa for) then, to be honest, they are more than welcome

Indeed, if they can be a Dr Dolittle and translate cat talk that would be highly useful

I am all Alexa, 2 echo's, 2 spots, 3 dots. I use Spotify for music. Sonoff modules work very well with them and are as cheap as chips. You can set up routines for different times of the day, turning on or off various lights and plugs. Whole house music great for parties, all devices sync with no lag. Announcements handy to get lazy kids up or to meals. Echo's are best quality for music so have these in the lounge & kitchen. Strong wifi, even work in quite distant outbuildings.

How to listen to what is recorded and how to delete the recordings.

I use my Echos and Dots for music - my own library and the 'free' Prime music - and for turning on and off lights / power sockets. It's great when I want to know the time in the middle of the night, I don't have to open my eyes.

It's particularly useful for when there has been a power cut at my home, especially if I'm away. After a power cut the smart plugs default to 'on' so I can see that and turn them off.

During dark mornings and evenings the ability to turn on the lights on from outside is brilliant. Where I live there aren't any street lights (not even a street) so I can find my way from the car.

Whether or not you 'want' one is subjective. Some people start out not wanting a washing machine / dish washer or any number of other modern gadgets. Once one is bought and used it can swiftly become an essential. It has a huge number of benefits for me.

You can make phone calls via Google home also.
You will only get people recommending whatever they have. Best do more research on the net before taking too much from here.

I didn't think it would be long before the paranoid brigade joined in.
    Always good for a smile.......;):D
