Haunted dishwasher!

Yesterday morning our Serie 4 Bosch slimline dishwasher failed to complete the wash cycle. Stuff was largely clean but the bottom of the machine was full of water. There was nothing showing on the digital display. We emptied the machine and bailed it out as best we could. Checked the electrical socket, which was working. Tried pushing all the buttons which are soft touch, nothing happened, no error code (or anything) else showing.


Fast forward to 5.30 this morning and I'm hearing swishing. Went downstairs and had a look, nothing on the display of the dishwasher, but I opened it up and steam came out, it appears to have done a wash cycle! Again, nothing on the display and I can't get it to start a cycle.



Any ideas?

It gets more odd. OH has just walked into the kitchen to find the digital display flashing looking like it's OK to start a cycle.

Odd things happen to washing machines and dishwashers if the pump jams or the outlet is partially blocked. It's possible that the dishwasher's haunted programme was enough to clear the blockage.

But it went back onto a blank display after the haunted cycle. It was only a couple of hours after that that the display woke up again.

The wonders of computerisation I suspect. Never used to have these problems when dishes were washed in the sink:rotfl: All you can do is see how things progress. If it happens again you may have to "get a man in".

I know. I'd prefer our old dishwasher where it was manual buttons and dials, never a problem in 15 years. This one is about 5 years old but only had about 2 year's use.

Having turned the dishwasher off at the socket overnight in case of fire (might seem excessive but I know somebody whose daughter had a house fire from a faulty dishwasher), I turned it on again this morning, and the display was back!


We're wondering now whether our newly fitted water softener decided to do a regeneration cycle at the same time the dishwasher was trying to empty. They are both plumbed into the same pipework under the sink.


Jury's out still on what's gone on here. Still doesn't account for the haunted cycle though.
