Argos

Hi all,
I brought a Canon DSLR camera from Argos in January of this year and I took the extra 3 years warranty out on it at extra cost.
Anyway, the camera has developed a fault and I have just been into Argos to ask if it can be changed or has to be sent away for repair.
the chap there said it can be changed but I will lose the extra cover I purchased and no refund for that.
is this right as the camera is under one year old and the extra cover I purchased states that it provides unlimited repairs?

Surely in that case you would get it repaired.
  • You would think they would repair due to the value of the item.
Unfortunately, I was nut offered a repair just an exchange.

The terms of the warranty are whatever the terms Argos have written in it. If they say no repair and no further cover then that is what it is. Have you read the warranty to see if it is being interpreted correctly?

Yes Argos are correct see the warranty .
Many such extra cover are similiar one refunded / exchanged no further claims .

Where to and hopefully after you had paid for it?
  • But surely because the product is under 12 months old this should be exchanged under the manufacture. There is no external damage to the product just An electrical glitch.
I thought the extra 3 years cover I purchased would come into force after the 12 months unless it was a claim for accident damage or the like.

    Thx for the replies

In that case withdraw the warranty claim and make a claim under your Consumer Rights. As it is more than 6 months from purchase then Argos may require you to obtain an engineer's report that confirms (on the balance of probabilities) that the fault was inherent - i.e. present at the point of sale but not apparent - rather than being something the user caused.

OR ... contact Canon direct to invoke their warranty. (Provided that Argos haven't taken on board the warranty obligations).

OR ... use the extra cover and be aware of the T&Cs that apply.

    >>NO that depends upon the warranty terms/manufacturer is not your consumer rights .
