Bristol Energy

Sorry, can't find a thread for this supplier.

I have been with Bristol Energy for the past year and it's coming up for my time to change. I was happy originally to see that BE had a graph which showed how much energy I was using, and how much BE were charging me per month on DD. There was quite a difference but it didn't bother me as I could look forward to the excess being returned to me when I change suppliers. The graph then disappeared, their reason being that customers were confused by it, when in fact I rather think that customers understood it all too well and changed their DD to the correct amount, which meant that BE couldn't stash the excess into their account :p
When I change suppliers (through Martin's CEC) I shall hope to find one that has this graph. I have noticed, that the DD suggested by the Energy Company based on past consumption, is always much less than they actually charge once you change to them. I have always had the excess I have paid over the year automatically returned to me, but I have read that some Providers don't. and if you don't apply for it, you don't get it. So I have decided to pay the correct DD in future and not let the Provider charge me the excess in order to pump up their bank balance. I would appreciate any recommendations.

Ask your potential new suppliers whether you can pay by variable direct debit so that you don't build up a credit or debit balance.
  • I have decided to go with British Gas this year, they do charge only for what is consumed that particular month.
