When an expensive appliance dies after a couple of years!

Hi Everyone.
I'm sure I have read somewhere that you can sometimes get an appliance repaired or replaced even though the warranty has expired.
We have an expensive coffee machine that has passed away after 2.5 years. Costing nearly £600.00, I don't think this is reasonable.
I'm fairly sure it had a two year guarantee.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you.
Cheers
Nick

Try contacting the manufacturer to ask for any suggestions they might have as to why it's stopped working?0

I feel your pain. Our Miele machine (nearly £3K) broke down during warranty - whilst Miele were excellent in repairing it, it made be worry about what what happen when it finally died. It did die, about 3 months outside of the warranty. They replaced it with a brand new one. The new one is now nearly 3 years old and has started to develop the same fault (spitting milk rather than dispensing it). I have decided I can live with it. It will die but I've done rather well in getting a new one.
Go back to the manufacturer and plead your case, they may help you or at least offer a solution that isn't as bad as having to replace it fully. Whatever you get from them will be at their discretion and if outside of the warranty period is a bonus for you rather than a right.
Consumer rights law - if you want to go this route, then you will need to commission a report, the report will need to show the fault was inherent at time of purchase for you to try to progress this any further. This route should be via the retailer. Good luck.0 -
As it is over 6 months old you will need to get a report stating it was inherently faulty and has not failed due to misuse etc...
Your rights are with the retailer under the consumer rights act. NOT the manufacturers.
Where do you buy it from?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The first step is to talk to the retailer and see what they say. They may just sort the issue.
Only when the retailer refuses to do anything else would a report be required.0 -
My coffee maker asks to contact them first in regards to problems .
Some are relativly simple to fix .Mine just involved removing a screw and washing a filter plate .
Thats what i would do before going down the CR route against the vendor .0
