Ive lost trust in them and will feel unsafe when out in my car. It doesn't seem fair that I've paid for cover but don't wish to stay with them and I won't get a refund - has anyone any suggestions?

You can cancel/refund details here: https://autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/AutoAid-Product-Information-Document.pdf

But as you state, you now feel unsafe when out in your car? I would suggest using public transport from now on as your post shows clearly that you are not confident or knowledgeable enough to be driving.

OP and everyone else you need to download 'just three words' app to your phone as a priority.

Whilst car breakdown is inconvenient, the app would help and it could save yours or someone else life.
Perhaps you didn't read the OP...?

The OP didn't break down, they phoned for directions.
No location identification would have helped, because they didn't have a data signal.

I wonder who they'd have blamed if they'd not been able to make a call, either?
