Lost school fees plan

Hi. I have discovered that my mum invested approx 70000 in a plan to pay forbprivate school fees. This was around 1985. We never did attend private school and my brother and I each received approx. 1000 per term when we went to university, from this fund. It seems this money was therefore a capital investment and we received some interest but nit the initial capital. Well not all of it. My mum had no idea about finances and don't think appreciated how the plan worked. She had inherited this money, went to a broker (also no longer inexistence) and took advice. She never thought any more of it as my parents divorced and it got forgotten about. We have no paperwork and the company who the plan was taken out with -School Fees Association- I think no longer exist. Is this money lost forever or is there a way of tracing this? I suspect the SFA perhaps was wound up which makes me think any opportunity has been lost. Any suggestions???!!!

When your parents divorced and financial matters agreed I'm sure that this would have been factored into account.

Or if was factored into the divorce settlement as all investments should be.

There is no company called that on the FCA register. The register goes back to 2001.
There is also no company called that listed at companies house. That data goes back much much further.
So, have you got the name right?

There are some specialist asset-tracing firms: your solicitor should know about them. However, the first thing you should do is go through all the papers relating to the divorce, paying great attention to the financial details and lists of assets.
