British Gas Final Bill
Hi everyone
Just looking for advice. Apologies if this is a little long winded.
I changed energy supplier from EON to British Gas the 25th June 19 so I supplied the meter readings to British Gas.
On the 12 September 19 British Gas came to fit one of their meters as I was previously using a EON meter. When this was being installed British Gas advised they will take the current meter readings as once installed their meter will start at zero.
I have now moved out of my house on the 18th October 19 and I now have tenants living there so I gave my final meter readings to British Gas. However now I received my final bill I have noticed the gas usage between starting with British Gas and getting their meter installed is an estimated figure and not a meter reading. The estimated figure of 4533 kwh is way over what it actually should be (I was only living their one day a week as staying at my girlfriends). I know I should have taken readings myself but is there anything I can do?
I only used 12 kwh of gas for the 5 weeks after their meter was installed and the daily usage would have been similar for the previous 11 weeks as it was summer and as I said I was barely there. Is there any way I can dispute their estimate of 4533 kwh for the 11 weeks from opening the account to getting a new meter reading as I was expecting to get a refund over £100 but British Gas are now saying I owe them money. Weird thing is they took a meter reading for the electric when installing the new meter but not the gas. My total electric usage for the whole time with British Gas from 25th June to 18th October was only 86 kwh which again reflects I wasn't there much.
P.S I only use gas for the boiler (central heating and hot water).
Hope you can help
Dave

Quite a few questions.
Between June 25 and Sept 12 did you read your meter and give readings to BG ? And did you take a photo? Did you get a bill in that time ? If so did the opening reading agree with what you gave BG on June 12th ?
On that bill did it give details of the meter particularly was it a m3 ft3 meter.
When the contractor changed the meter on Sept 12 did he leave a card with the meter readings on it?
Other than your final bill have you received a bill since Sept 12th? On that bill should be be details of the old meter and its readings and the new meter readings (usually zero)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
