Protecting carpet from wear.

I've bought a Wii dance/keep fit DVD. The room I'm going to be using it in, has a mainly wool fitted carpet. I'm worried that dancing on it every day could quickly wear out a big patch of carpet.

I've read somewhere that placing a big mat/rug/ carpet offcut on top of a fitted carpet doesn't really save on wear and tear as the pressure from walking on the mat still causes wear to the carpet beneath. But what about a polypropelene office-chair mat specifically for carpets? Would that give good protection? I don't know enough about carpets to make a good decision, so any advice would be great. Thanks.

We've got those to protect our carpets in our home office. They would be too slippery to dance on safely IMO.

Most people lost interest in those keep fit games quite quickly - but on the off chance you don't, perhaps a yoga mat or the like?
