Halifax account benefits

Hi,
I currently bank with Halifax as i have done for approx 17 years.
I have just acknowledged that the bank is actually quite basic and the reward are generally poor.
The one thing I do like is the cash back offers i get through the bank from companies such as Vintage Inns (usually about 10%) and Miller and Carter (usually about 5%). For example i had an offer this week which was for beer52 where if i spend £24 i get £20 cash back which worked really well. I got the £20 back.
Do other banks offer the cashback scheme for offers from suppliers?
Any help would be appreciated.

I can only speak for the accounts I (or close family members) own, but both Barclays and Santander also offer retailer cashback.
Barclays offers are online only, and were in the past pretty good occasionally. They're now without exception rubbish. Santander seem to have some fairly good offers, from a cursory glance.
Both are regularly beaten by dedicated sites such as Top Cashback.: )0 -

Depending on what type of rewards/cashback you want will determine which account is best for you. NatWest Rewards or Santander 123 are good for cashback on household bills paid by direct debit. Nationwide has a bundled account that offers some good perks in exchange for a monthly fee. Many other banks also offer a cashback scheme similar to the one you describe. You can also get these sorts of deals from TopCashback/Quidco however so they shouldn't be the sole reason for sticking with Halifax. Have a look around and see what will suit your circumstances best.0 -
thank you for your reply. The benefit of the halifax offers is that you can use them with your card in stores or restartauts, rather than having to go on online etc.
I see your points though and these are not really reasons to stick with a bank as the offers are never more than 5 or 7%.0 -
Except where they're
orpresumably?
Yes but when i say 5% or 7% I am really talking generally restaurants such as vintage inns or miller and carter, and are usable in store with a card. the Higher ones are usually first time incentives or online only, or caps at a certain value.
Apologies if I sounded ambiguous, I was just not being clear i think0 -
You are talking here about what Lloyds call everyday offers; presumably Halifax call then something similar.
Yes these offers are good providing that you actually intend to make a purchase in the first place but not so good if you don't and end up making a purchase just to get the cashback. You also need to beware. Had a recent offer from Pets at Home so went there with the intention of buying cat food. Their price of the brand of cat food that I buy was such that even with the 5% cashback it was cheaper for me to buy nothing from them and go and buy the cat food from Sainsburys as I usually do.
The supermarket offers (Morrisons, Waitrose, CoOp) work with cigarette purchases though so a carton of cigarettes bought with a 5 or 10% cashback offer can get a nice amount of cashback.0 -

Thank you, I had noticed this and have cancelled.
Incidently, you could continue to get free or discounted weeks subscriptions if you refer a friend or two each month. Then cancel when you run out of beer drinking friends.
If you have no friends, then just cancel after month 1, which is why I cancelled as it happens. :rotfl:0 -
Santander do. They have a whole raft of offers. Currently 10% at Miller & Carter, 5% at Morrisons, 20% at Laithwaite wines to name but a few0
