Home Insurance New Build unable to get Online Quote?

I've seen this is a common issue but reluctant to phone around insurers to get a telephone quote for fear they will be dearer than an online quote.

Address still not listed on online comparison sites completion due 1st November.

Any suggestions to get best quote?

Why do you thin a phone quote will be higher? I have only done it with Aviva, but the price was exactly the same. What happens on the phone is that the operator inputs your details in the system instead of the comparison website, the result will be the same.

If you want a rough estimate check nearby post codes that are already active.

Have you checked that the address is showing on the Royal Mail's website? If not, then that's probably why you can't find it on the insurance comparison websites.

You can contact Royal Mail to get them to add the address: https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/update-your-address They're pretty quick, but not sure it will filter through to the insurance companies in time for you (it depends on how often they update their address files).

It often is as you won't qualify for an 'online discount'. Makes sense as someone has to be employed to answer the phone.

OP, won't your mortgage provider offer insurance?

We're buying a new-build. You're just going to have to phone I'm afraid.

As above, check to see if your address is listed here:
https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode (start typing any part of the address)

If it's not, chase the builder to get it done.

The above search runs from Royal Mail's PAF (can't remember what it stands for) database of UK addresses. Companies who need addresses - insurers etc - pay Royal Mail to have access to the PAF to keep their lists up-to-date. However, most companies only run an update monthly or quarterly. So even once you're on the PAF, it'll be a number of months until all companies have your address in their address finder. I've seen comments online saying it can be 6 months to a year before everywhere has updated.

You'll be free to shop around easily online next year so it's only this year's policy that's affected and might cost a few quid more. In the grand scheme of house-buying it's not going to make a huge difference.
