39mph in 30 zone - first fine in my life :(

Oh great, what a horror.

Just got home from work and found the letter from police about my speed. I was 39mph in a 30mph zone ... i even noticed the mobile-police-speed van but was too late then.

Have had license since 2012 and never offended. Sadly, sometimes we do not pay much attention and sh.. happens.

It is my first offend and not sure what the consequences will be!? Wonder if police take the 3% speed into account !?

Some say, will be 50% my weekly income but how do they know how much I earn!? Are they linked with HMRC to know all this!?

Can I not somehow attend a course to avoid the penalty points !?

Also, will my insurance go up now?!
Do I need to let them know!?

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the police (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.
