O/S Daily Thursday 24 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Still dark here, but not raining at the moment, rain is forecast for later.

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

dumpling - good to hear from you, keep fighting, stay strong x

mehefin - sorry to hear your news, thinking of you x

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, hash browns, beans and mushrooms - had some bits to use up. Not sure what we'll be having for dinner tonight but will organise whilst I'm out this morning.

I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the bank and building society. I'll then be needing to get on with the housework, washing, drying and ironing. The dishwasher seems to have died, so there's a pile of dirty stuff to wash, so I've got the first lot soaking at the moment, I'll be checking my papers to see if I still have a warranty valid for it. I prefer to be without a washing machine not a DW! If it's broken beyond repair could do without needing to buy a new one.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC - sorry to hear your DW is on the blink. Ours is about 17 years old, and I know it's not as efficient as it used to be. I think it'll be the next appliance to go. Hope you can get it sorted out.

It seems to be a quiet morning here, dry anyway. Still dark of course.

I didn't go out at all yesterday, just did stuff round the house. Today, I would like to go to Ho*bycraft for a couple of things - I'm making 2 close family birthday cards and one need to be sent off to Oz in the next few days.

Also there's a couple of pairs of new trousers to take up, so I'll try and get those done.

I hope everyone has good days - thinking of Dumpling, and others who are ill or struggling with life.
    Take care folks xx
  • Just popped back to say I've just read your post about Edinburgh Xmas markets Gers - I would have liked that one, and it's not far for us either.

I couldn't book it for the duration and time we wanted it, as we've left it late. I suppose if I'd trawled through eventually I would have found something, but I didn't. We're going to Manchester and Chatsworth, it seems nice enough anyway, and still not that far,

The last time we went, we did York and Harrogate, and we were talking to people over dinner in our hotel who'd travelled from Dorset, for one night in York - they'd left home at 3am!!

We can't be doing with that, too bl**dy old!

    Morning folks.

Today is DM's cleaners last day until Christmas. The substitute she brought on Tuesday has pulled out, she's got a full time job so can't come. We'll muddle through although normal service will be disrupted when I'm recovering.

Once the cleaner is here I'll clear out the rest of the freezer and she can carry the bag down to my car for me. Then I need to go to the surgery to register as a temporary patient. DM's GP told me to do that so she could come out if necessary.

Scarlet - perhaps you can keep Edinburgh in mind for next year. It's held in Princes Gardens so right outside Waverley Station.

I'll start my day in about half an hour. My thoughts to those who are having a difficult time. Happy Thursday to everyone.
  • Gers, yes, will definitely consider Edinburgh next year.

I remember a friend telling me she and her daughter had gone for the day to the Edinburgh market - as you know it's not a long train journey for us. She said they were tired at the end of the day, and glad to board the train home, but had had a nice day.
  • Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

Mehefin sorry to read your sad news, I know from reading your posts that you were so fond of Bruisemare.

Yesterday's training day was interesting and worth attending but oh I was tired afterwards. I've also been given a login for some online training. Although some will repeat elements of training that I've done over the years, it is good to refresh the learning and there is always something new to learn and different perspectives.

Today I need to go shopping, forgot to get a couple of birthday cards the other day, change bedlinen and cook an evening meal and that's about it really.

Dumpling, good to hear from you yesterday xx
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning :hello:

dumpling I was so pleased to see your post! Keep fighting :D xx

mehefin I'm so sorry about Bruisemare xx

Speky Scamp panics and races around the house barking when he hears fireworks, nothing I do will keep him calm. I have some little biscuits which help – thanks redruby for letting me know about those! - but too many bangs in a row and he just can't cope. Last year I let him out for a wee and a couple went off, he ignored them. I thought it was just a one-off but I decided to test it and left the back door open, he was actually much better when he was outside! So this year I'll give him the biscuits and leave the door open, hopefully he'll be OK.

The fog hung around for a few hours yesterday, on our walk I saw hundreds of cobwebs on the hedges. It looked amazing and I wanted to take a couple of photos but the hedges were in people's front gardens and I thought it might be assumed that I was taking photos into their lounges or something so I didn't :D

I'll put a load of towels in the machine, it's a bit misty out there so there's no chance of them drying outside, they'll have to go on the airer. I'll just be pottering about today, tidying and cleaning.

  • Good morning everyone!

Dumpling - Great to see you about. Stick in there.
mehefin - Sorry to hear the bad news. The're just part of the family.

Yesterday I left work late, which was frustrating. It meant I didn't go to the gym as I had to make chicken and chorizo paella which took a decent amount of time - delicious though! I went to bed super early in an attempt to make my wakening at 5am easier. It didn't.

But, I've been to the gym. I'll finish work sharp today so I can get home to watch the football then I have football training afterwards. I'll hopefully get to bed at a reasonable time again.

Hope everyone has a nice day :)

    Morning everyone

Dumpling really pleased to see your post. Keep fighting xx

A cold wet start to the day here, I'm another one who has given in and got the heating on.

Off to another town today to do some shopping and have lunch with a friend. Hopefully the trains are running on time.

When I get back I want to get some of the housework done and out of the way for the weekend.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all

Foggy here and damp so im going to have a nice day in the warm.

Ive phoned in sick to work and will do tomorrow as well, my foot has been getting more and more painful to the point that I am struggling to walk to my car at the end of a work day the pain is almost making me cry, If I need to get up the the loo in the night I cant put my foot to the floor and am having to hop along to the bathroom. I walk about 6 miles a day at work and dont sit at all apart from my lunch 1/2 hr, I have tried everything the Dr has recommended and nothing is helping, this morning my foot is very swollen and so painful to put to the floor, so I have an emergency appointment today and Im going to insist something is done to help me, I cant bear the pain any more and I need to put my health before work. Sorry for that long moaning post I am just fef up with hurting.

So I have the Dr at 10.30 will come home and pit my feet up Im going to try and rest them as much as I can and see if that helps, so will do a quick dinner tonight and no more jobs will be done !

Dumpling Its so nice to hear from you, keep fighting Mrs xxx

mehefin I'm so sorry about Bruisemare I know how much you loved her xx

    Have good days all xx

Redruby- so sorry to hear of your pain. You do right to call in sick, and you're not moaning! It's your life.

Dumpling - just read your post from last night, good news all round.

Mehefin - that's awful news. You've done your very best for her and she'll live in your memories.

Am showered abs wrapped in a towel. Still losing weight so the towel is rather too big now. :j
