Boiler not switching on

I've got a Baxi / Potterton boiler which was on this evening and making some loud electrical noises that I could hear from the living room, just like a buzzing noise. Turned off at the wall, now trying to turn it back on and nothing. Any ideas how I can try and power it on? I've held the power button for 20 seconds and nothing.
Thanks

I suspect that it is broken and will not power on until it is fixed. You need to call out a boiler engineer.
You can last without your boiler for a couple of days by boiling water in a kettle for washing and using fan heaters if it gets too cold. Your friends or family may be able to lend you a fan heater or an electric radiator to tide you over. You boiler could be out of action for a few days if new parts are needed.
Don't accept the engineers word that the boiler is beyond economic repair. Call the manufacturer out and get the manufacturer's estimate to repair the boiler before deciding whether you need a new boiler. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
No worries. It's a new build property so phoned out out of hours cover too.0

Good advice. I have a large oil-fired Potterton boiler installed in early 1970's. I gave up on getting a boiler service/repair technician to look at it about 20 years ago as they would tell me that it was not worth repairing.
The Potterton recently refused to start after the summer, when I do not use it. I gave the blower a good clean, bought a new nozzle for £6, installed said nozzle and boiler is now working perfectly.0 -

Don't be too sure.
A fuse will normally only blow when a certain current has been exceeded and there must have been a reason for 2 separate fuses to blow at the same time and unless the reason can be found and rectified, it may well happen again.0
