Travel Insurance and Gadget Cover

Hi

I'm a bit confused with something

We recently returned from our hols and we are trying to claim on some damage to an iwatch. I purchased the insurance via Boots and they deal with the tifgroup. I did need to make two claims, one for the watch and the other for some medical costs.

The medical costs as expected were no problem and they paid out. But the watch is odd. I'm told I need to contact a company called Great Lakes CE. I've rung tifgroup and they gave me a number. After calling this number it really didn't feel like a claims line. I left a message but it just felt wrong.

I was a bit surprised I would have to do this leg work myself, which I don't mind but I think I've been given the wrong contact details.

Does anyone know if I should be contacting Great Lakes directly and if I should what is the telephone number.

I've done all the usual google exercise and the policy documents also don't appear to mention any contact details for Great Lakes.

Thanks
Jason

Consider yourself lucky for getting payout from TIF Group on your medical bill, considering their reputation.

I assume you meant Great Lakes SE which a quick google search show to offer gadget insurance, so just follow the advise you got to call them and make your claim. I wouldn't rely on callback based on voice mail. Call them again until someone answers the phone.

    Hi Jason,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re confused and I would like to help.

To allow me to do this, please could you email us at hello@tifgroup.co.uk, with your name, date of birth and postcode so we can locate you on our system? If you could set the subject line as ‘MSE review’ I would really appreciate it.

    Kind regards,

Funny you should pop up after a 9 month hiatus, Amber. And around the same time as the big thread on your disastrous companies disappeared.

Give Andy D my regards x

Thou must not criticise tifgroup for ye shall be smote.

The more they threaten people, including The Times, Cover, MSE to name a few, the worse they look, so I’ve no issue with thread deletions.

Strange way to try and recover your PR image but hey, I’m not a PR consultant.

For the last few years I have always purchased travel insurance with gadget cover from Ryan Air when I booked my flights.  On returning from a trip in October 2019 I needed to make a claim for damage (cracked screen) to my iPad...it fell onto a tile floor when I dozed off with it on my knee.  Ryan Air Insurance asked me to provide a 'written authoritative report'  which I obtained from Apple.  They dragged their feet for weeks before eventually coming back with the following refusal -
    • [The subscribed insurance policy excludes the reimbursement for the reason described in the following exclusion:
SECTION D PERSONAL EFFECTS, TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION AND DELAYED BAGGAGE
      What is not covered:
      i. any breakage of fragile articles, unless the breakage is caused by fire or an accident involving the vehicle in which you are being carried.]
I have complained 3 times but still keep getting the same quote back, my point to them is that I had gadget insurance and that I don't believe an iPad is particularly fragile as it is in daily use and will not break under normal circumstances.  I have complained to the Ombudsman but would like to know if others have had any similar experiences with any travel insurance and if anyone has had a successful claim.
