Quote declined - car insurance?

I have been driving for ten months and I am on an accelerator policy with Elephant. I shopped around to see what price I could get an 1st central were by far the cheapest at £850 compared to £1100 from Elephant (next cheapest). I have held my licence for 10 months and have 1 years NCB.

I go through with 1st Central and get the quote and I am about to pay on their website. Then the payment does not go through whatsoever, and I was told to call them as they are having difficulties with the online payment.

I speak to someone on the phone and I give her my card details and she then comes back and says that they are not able to offer me the policy and I need to go to another insurer. I questioned this but she said she doesn't know why and that no payment has been taken.

Does anyone have any idea how this could happen? I did put in a few quotes with them beforehand so maybe something flagged up? I still kept getting the quotes. Could it be that it's because I have 1 year NCB but with only 10 months since I've held my licence?

I really have no idea but it has got me worried. I am going to obviously stick to Elephant as they are the cheapest.

You got your provisional licence 10 months ago? Or passed your test 10 months ago?

Some companies don't recognise (accept) accelerated NCB.

Did you change any material info when getting the quotes? Like your occupation, time you've been driving, claims, where the car is kept etc?

Insurers tend to view that as an indication of fraud. They think you might be trying out different 'fibs' to see which gives you the lowest quote. So they decline to quote.

(Some people would try to avoid that problem by getting quotes using a dummy name, a dummy address nearby, and the details of a similar car. Then getting a new quote with the correct details when they're ready to buy. But strictly speaking, that's breaking the website t&cs.)

Computer says you cannot have 1 years no claims when you only passed your test 10 months ago.

My daughter had a 10 month policy and the NCD letter made it very clear the policy was a 10 month one. I presumed to try and keep you with that company and not try elsewhere.

Easy in my daughters case as the insurer didnt mind it being a 10 month policy and she had held her licence for longer than 12 months.

It was a club insurance scheme who do not usually cover young drivers but they gave a very good quote, the following year they would not cover her though. Strange but her premiums are now fairly sensible.

Have you asked your current insurer for a quote ?
Might just be easier to stick with them and maybe next ysar look at moving to another insurer who offer 1 year NCB for 1 years driving.

When did you get your provisional licence as you've confirmed you passed your test 10 months ago, therefore I assume you have been driving for at least a year unless you did an intensive driving course?

If your current insurance company will cover you for another year then let the other one go, at times we never get to the bottom of why businesses don't want our money.

I've had my provisional since I was 17 and started to learn to drive around October last year. I always thought the date of your licence has to be of the full rather than provisional though?

Seems like I'll have to stick with the current insurer and shop around next year it seems
