Health insurance - join partners plan or get my own?

Hi there,

I am thinking of getting private health insurance and have a few questions.

My partner works for a large bank and I am able to access a Bupa plan through him by going on his policy. However I wondered if it would be better to get my own plan? Price wise there is little difference.

I wondered if I were to go on his plan and something happened such as relationship breakdown or he loses his job etc and I have to come off the plan, would I need to reapply for a brand new solo policy? If so would anything I have received treatment for (not claimed for but just saw the GP for) be seen as an preexisting medical condition?

I just wonder if it’s safer to get my own plan and not be tied into someone elses should anything happen. However if it’s just a matter of transferring out of his plan to my own one and that plan would continue as is then this might not be an issue?

I’ve tried to find out about such situations online and it’s a bit confusing. If anyone can shed any light I’d be grateful.

Many thanks
