Electrolux Powerplus vacuum - the turbo nozzle

Has anyone bought this and what is their experience.
I have grown up using electrolux cylinder vac. mum's has last on average 8-10yr her most recent is going for 12odd years! So i bought an electrolux when i moved out and it has lasted 6yr - not sure whether to appreciate this.
Most expensive vac are £100+ and cheapest in 4ltr is prob. £50. and am considering sticking to electrolux - good idea? any suggestions - the powerplus 4492 has all the features i need but plastic is flimsy.
How does the turbo nozzle work - should it or is it supposed to rotate one its own.
any suggestions of better cylinder vac? How are Panasonic and Phillips. (Miele and Henry out of my budget and not keen on vax or dyson) How long do they last on average.
