Asking those who have bought a new build...

We moved in a little over a year ago with 80-90% of the furniture coming from our previous home (rented).

For some of the spaces we had a more or less clear vision how to furnish and where we didn't already had something available - bought it when we moved in. Where we already had something available we "reused" it, even if it wasn't the perfect fit.

As we keep living we are getting better idea of what we need/want and slowly work on replacing the old ill-fitting furniture or buy new bits.

I would recommend holding off any major purchases for at least couple of months after moving in, so you can get a better feel for the place. If you are completely missing something - use Freecycle etc. to get a "placeholder" item for free, rather than buying something expensive and then regretting it.
