Cadent not been allowed access by neighbour

Hi

Cadent/Balfour Beatty are currently working in our street replacing the gas pipes, the biggest hole seems to be on the pavement outside my house, which in itself is not a problem. However, there is only about a foot of pavement left between the hole and my gate and I can't get the wheelie bins in or out. Also as I am now getting home from work in the dark I have to be careful I don't fall into the unlit hole.

My neighbour has refused access to his home (he is not the homeowner) being somewhat abusive to the workers. Unfortunately, until the work is completed at the property the hole cannot be filled.

Is there anything I can do regarding access in and out of my gate? The hole was dug last Monday.
Debt Free! So I bought a caravan... :rotfl:

Have you contacted Cadent/Balfour Beatty to see what they can do for you?

Whilst some limited inconvenience is inevitable whilst they are carrying out essential work, there is no reason they should be be leaving large holes in the pavement for a week, let alone one that restricts access to your property.

Perhaps they could temporarily cap the hole, if they are not prepared to fill it in yet?

Thanks for your reply, I have emailed asking about the hole (there isn't anyone about in the street to ask) but I am surprised that they haven't covered it with one of those covers anyway.

If I was you I would ask Cadent/Balfour Beatty if they could make provision or help you to get the wheelie bins in and out. Look for a telephone number for them and failing that ring the council for help and point out to them that what has been done is not safe.
For you own safety I would carry a torch.

Try a public plea via Facebook or Twitter. That often gets a reaction.

The hole is still there, but they have managed to rearrange the barriers so that I can just get the bin in and out, this does mean that the barriers are right on the edge of the hole so I am expecting to see them vanish at any time!

Some people often mention Judge Judy on this site, but actually you don't need a good memory here when it's all there in black (now red as well ;)) and white to refer back to at any time...
