I am a dog owner /pet lover but I really cannot see how this is the OPs financial responsibility

The daughter needs to adult and accept responsibility

Did I say it was the OP's responsibility? ;) Neither did the poster above, who suggested that the OP take the puppy back to her home.

The daughter is an adult, but if this were my child and grandchildren, I'd rather help out financially (if I was able to) than see the puppy suffer further or see my grandchildren lose their puppy which they have probably already bonded with.

I'm afraid I think your daughter has been very irresponsible and is certainly not doing right by these puppies. I would say that they need to be rehomed soon, before the children become even more attached to them.
    It's not difficult!

Rehome the puppies while they are still puppies and can still have a normal life.

I got my terrier at 12 weeks by which time he'd already been kicked out of his first home. He was a puppy terrier! He wanted to growl and bite and play and pee on things! I took 2 weeks annual leave to start the training, then managed to wrangle part-time hours for a few weeks to start training him to stay at home, travel in the car, come to my office ... He is a reactive little farm terrier but he learned the rules of the house with calm consistent supervision and rewarding of good behaviour. He liked to wee on personal belongings until he was about 6 months but then stopped overnight. He had a bit of separation anxiety when we started the home alone training. That can escalate very seriously very quickly, so we worked hard on his comfort levels etc etc etc I could go on. It's bloody hard work! Rehome them now while they're cute enough that someone else will give them a chance.

Equall, for your family, there are plenty of lovely older dogs that would love a warm kitchen to sleep in and a belly full of food every night, and don't ask for much ... always worth contacting breed rescues, etc.

8 hours is far too long to leave any adult dog alone never mind puppies. You need to be with them all the time at the start and take them out every 2 hours to get the toilet training habit ingrained.

Sorry, but I would be taking them for rehoming to Dogs Trust or some other responsible animal charity.

It's not fair on the puppies or you. They need lots of care and attention now. That's why I don't get puppies, I get older rescue dogs who aren't house trained- but that problem is soon cracked because I am prepared to spend lots of time at the beginning to reap later rewards.
