i rarely shop in boots so only have £8.47 on my card in points.
can someone explain why they cannot be used as 'part payment' towards an item? the woman on the checkout today said i have to buy something for that amount or less. i wanted to use them towards some age defying cream that cost an arm and a leg (for my mum not me)

But on the other hand, the Boots loyalty card system is a lot more generous than most of the others out there, it's effectively 4% cashback. I guess that if they made it so you could part-pay, they would have to drop the value of the points.0

That's true. I used to work at Boots (Saturday Job) and was there when they launched the Advantage Card. The 'ethos' of it is that you use it to treat yourself, therefore you can only redeem it on items that they consider to be a treat (I don't know what the criteria is but it is generally higher price /profit items). As it is a 4% payback scheme (which is fairly generous) they can't 'afford' to do it on every item in store. If it were to be on every item in store then it would have to be just 1% payback......0 -

since the launch of the advantage card the amount of items that can be redeemed has increased greatly. The only main area's that you cant spend them on is gift cards/vouchers, stamps, and some pharmacy items. The reason you cant part pay is because A) your supposed to be able to treat yourself with the points and if you part pay there's not much of a treat and
the tills aren't set up to work part pay out and this would mess up the stock figures.
what alot of cheeky people do is buy things that have extra point son them, then return them cuz the majority of cashiers dont remove the extra points. also to build up your points use the advantage card machine0 -
whats the card machine do then? sorry im a novice with boots. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0

Put your card in and it will display special offers, like extra points for example or money off then you can print the coupons off to use at the tills.
Also when you buy on Boots.com you put your card into the machine to get your points.0
