Quote for removing kitchen tiles

Hi,

I've had a quote of approx £700 + VAT for removing kitchen tiles and supply/fitting plasterboard to some sections of the wall to level it off where required.

The quote does not include fitting any new tiles, it's just removing the old tiles and getting the walls ready for the new tiles to be fitted by someone else. The cost also doesn't include disposal of the old tiles.

The tiles are on 3 walls, one 2.m and two 1.4m, and the height is 0.3m (the tiles start at the worktop and go up to the bottom of the wall-mounted cupboards)

Is this quote fair for the work involved? In case it makes any difference, this is a fairly small town so no London prices!

That sounds expensive to me. I would be inclined to remove the tiles myself (and I'm not great with DIY) and take them in boxes to your local dump.

That way you can ask for a quote (from someone else) to do the rest of the work.

Others may think the quote you received is fair but unless you have some physical issues it will certainly help you to bring down the cost if you remove the tiles which when all is said and done is just part of the 'demolition' process which anyone can do.

    Good luck
