Whilst I've seen this recommendation across a few cra reports.
Is it essential to close and remove any unused bank accounts.
I only have hbos to consider.
Any meaningful effect on cra reports.

I don't see why it should be essential to close and remove unused bank accounts. In fact, from a CRA point of view, a bank account reporting each month a status 0 and no balance should be a positive, especially if it has an unused overdraft facility.
Having said that though, if you don't ever use a bank account you should probably close it at some point0 -
Can't see reason for closing an account for CRA reasons, I can see removing an account that is never used for fraud prevention reasons.0

CRA reasons?
Is the CRA lending you money?
