O/S Daily Saturday 19 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH enjoying first cuppa and watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge as I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.

Dark damp and air cooler here. We had rain again yesterday afternoon, some really heavy downpours for a few minutes then sunshine - doesn't really know what it's doing, but it's very wet underfoot, lots of laying water.

Dinner last night was pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy for the menfolk. I had a bit of a throw it all together dish - I had some passata in the fridge that needed using up so just stir fried some veg and added the passta and some chilli and balsamic vinegar - then found a small amount of linguine - so cooked that and mixed it all together - very nice it was too. Tonight we'll be having spicy chicken thighs, pizza, pork pie, salad, skinny chips and coleslaw.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got the food shopping done, put petrol in my car, got the shopping put away, did the ironing, stripped our bed and re-made with fresh linen, dirty wash basket was empty - until the menfolk came in from work last night! May be enough to put a load in this morning before I go to work.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning folks.

I'm enjoying a few more moments under the duvet. Even though I still wake very early I'm less inclined to actually get up immediately in the dark mornings.

There's no rush today as the usual visitor is away. DM will miss him.

I had a few coughing fits yesterday after doing a little talking so I'll try to avoid speech today after the shopping trip. I'll have an order to collect from Marks after 12pm. A friend advised me to buy a pull-on skirt for after my op as she had found it difficult to put on trousers, so I've done that. Mind you, I must ask about how she managed to put on knickers!

Right...here goes. My thoughts are with those struggling along. Happy Saturday to everyone.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. A fine but nippy day forecast for us.

Plans for today had to change and now I am housebound! I had a drama with the toilet late yesterday afternoon. I rang one of my buddies whose DH is a long retired plumber to see if he still had any contacts in the trade. He bobbed down to have a look himself, bless him, but he was stumped as obviously systems have changed and got more complicated since his day - and not improved for the better in his opinion! He got hold of one of his contacts who is coming today but, meanwhile, I am having to flush it with buckets of water.

As I am now stuck in waiting I have decided it will be soup kitchen day! My stocks in the freezer are down to just a couple of bags and I do enjoy it for my lunch with a sandwich. I have decided on Leek & Potato and Lentil & Bacon I think.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care all xx

  • Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

Had another run of bad nights and have not felt much joy for a few days, I think that is not helped by wet, cold days. It has stopped raining at least for now though everything is wet.

Got the washing on 2 airers and radiator racks as it was just piling up waiting for a dry day. Managed to motivate myself to do the ironing yesterday so that is a plus.

Gers, I saw the pic of your garden, it is lovely, just the type of garden I like.

I have no interesting plans today, just going to be indoors out of the rain.

Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

It's very quiet here! The DGC have gone home, their Dad managed to get a weekend off so came just after I arrived with them at his house. It was lovely for them to see him, weren't expecting him for another couple of weeks.

The journey back up to theirs wasn't too bad but the torrential rain started when we were nearly there and I had to drive back in it, it wasn't pleasant. I'm hoping for some drier weather today as I have all the bedding to wash and a mountain of towels, DS1 and his DGF arrived for a flying visit on Thursday night too so a very busy house.

I'll spend the day at home cleaning and tidying, may even have a nap later!

Gers - I hope your cold improves, at least it's before your op.
    Sorry you're not sleeping AOD.
TA - my worst nightmare is not being able to flush the loo!
Hope your FIL is making a good recovery RR.

Have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

It rained heavily for most of the day yesterday, we managed a walk late morning when it stopped but didn't make it back before it started again. We were a bit soggy by the time we got home :D Impressive thunder and lightning at about 5pm but it only lasted a few minutes.

No real plans for today, I'm just going to potter about until the housework is done then decide what to do for the rest of the day.

  • I think I am loosing my marbles!! I have lost 2 USB sticks I use to transfer designs to my machine. One I know I had last week and the other one yesterday..........amost taken the house apart, no joy.....OH has also lost some papers he has to carry with him all the time. I am going to have to resort to sticky notes!!

Lovely day yesterday, the wind was quite strong, it has rained over night but its dry and the sun is trying to come out.

I have to brave the loft this morning, I need to put the polystyrene packing for my machine up there out of the way. at the moment its on the bed in my sewing room.

OH plans to give a couple of shrubs a haircut.

    Supper tonight, quiche and salad.
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

We moved yesterday only a few hundred yards, but we had to go through the next lock to wind and then back up to the go through the lift bridge.
Whilst I was operating the bridge Beano was attacked by a huge staffy cross, I'm trying to protect Beano and operate the bridge, cars are honking at me, Steve's on the boat panicking as he can't get the boat to the bank quickly enough to help. Beano is none the worse apart from a bald patch on his shoulder, the other dogs owner was very apologetic.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all

Its actually dry and sunny here ! for the first time this week I think although im sure more rain will some later !

Just having a second cuppa and then we will spring into action, I shall clean down stairs and OH will do up, I also have two loads of washing to do, one is on the go and one waiting.

I shall go shopping with dd today, OH and I both fancy steak and chips for dinner so thats what we will have with a stuffed mushroom and oven baked garlic tomato which OH will cook so gives me the night off cooking.

I am going to peel and soak my onions this morning for my picked onions and tomorrow rinse them off and jar them up, should be ready for xmas. I also have to make some soup up for my lunches next week.

Right I had better get on have good days all xx
  • Since my earlier post things have gone from bad worse in the plumbing department. No water coming out of the shower now!! For now at least the bath taps are sending forth water.! No sign of the plumber yet but he did say it might be after lunch. Time for something else to stop working by then!

On the plus side I have two big pans of soup simmering away. That lot should keep me going for a while! I just hope I have enough soup 'n' sauce bags for it all. If not there are enough freezer tubs lurking in the top cupboard.

Oh poor Beano. He deserves a ((BIG HUG)) poor doggy.

Morning all, now all the big bags have gone, it's all the little bits left to tidy, the bits that don't quite fit in anywhere, like IMAX glasses etc. I feel another bout of throwing out coming on.
We urned and made the bed last night, was much warmer sleeping but I think we've put the duvet in the wrong way, which means it'll have to be taken out and redone today...Joy.
It's time to start in the garden too before it gets really frosty, and then inside. It's taking me double the time I'm allowing for things for me to do them, so I may even be finished with the current batch of to-do's by December....

Hugs for Beano Hester and you two! Bit of a shock to galvanise the system into overdrive...have some nice sweet tea...Hope your FIL makes it home today ruby, enjoy the steak! TA, sounds like a bit of a nightmare...hope your plumber sorts it out toot sweet! csarina, good luck finding your sticks, they're so small, they could be anywhere! Good luck Gers, preperation is the key...Will you be staying at your house or your mothers? Hope everyone is good and not soaked through [tru!].....Shiny Saturday!
