New car insurance -requested Driving Licence copy

Just renewed my car insurance with a different company.
Haven't changed insurers for 5+ years.

The new company have asked for a copy of my Driving Licence, never had this before.

In the past I think I was asked for insurance renewal notice, but never driving licence.

Is this normal nowadays, as have never had this before ??

Insurers can request a copy of your driving licence when they like to verify that you're telling them the truth about points etc.

My last insurance policy - with Adrian Flux - they asked for a copy of my Driving Licence.

It's with Budget: Sabre.

cant be standard given ive never had to do it in 17 years of driving.

Had to produce a copy of a licence when a claim was made. Sounds like Adrian Flux are being proactive and covering themselves if you have a claim and don't declare the right info.
