Not sure if I scratched a car in a car park

Hi,

I was leaving a car park today after having been to a group training session. The car park was very tight and we were all double parked.

I had to reverse out and there was a concrete bollard behind me which I was trying to reverse around.

As I swung the front end round at a very slow speed (1-2 mph) I heard a tiny bump which sounded like it was at the back of the car so assumed it was the bollard.

The strange thing is all this time the person in the other car was sitting in it with their lights on. I even got out of my car to check the back bumper for damage, which there was none.

Surely they would have noticed a bump to their car if I had hit it and grabbed my attention as I was out of my car? But they did not.

So I am still not 100% sure if it was their car I scratched or just the bollard.

It was only when I got home that I notice a 6 inch shallow scratch along my passenger door.

What should I do in this scenario, where I am not even sure what I made contact with?

It was the tiniest of taps and my car was moving so would likely have more damage (will come out with T-Cut).

I have no idea who owns the other car or am ever likely to see them again.

What can you do? Nothing, other than to wait and see if the other party makes a claim. Doesn't sound as if that's likely though.

If you flashed a speed camera but weren't sure whether there was a film in it or not, would you fess up?

And how would anybody know whether you were imagining things or not?

Same situation here - best forget it.
You checked, you didn't just drive off.

You've signed up to this forum just to post that as your first question? Is this a genuine query? Some of the MSE new posters are getting more and more obscure these days. Is it me or do people really turn to the internet to ask the most simple questions their own brain can't answer?

I think it's safe to say there wouldn't be.

Hardly the same thing unless you're saying you need to stop and exchange details with the camera that flashes you.

FYI I browse these forums regularly. I just hadn't posted until now and was just looking for some advice so rudeness is unnecessary.

Thanks to the posters who have provided helpful information thus far

Then I do apologise. I have been browsing and contributing to these forums for many years but have noticed a sharp rise in new posters who are asking, in my opinion, slightly odd questions. Then they disappear. It is to your credit you came back and I hope someone answers your question to your satisfaction

I was not trying to be rude but simply observing a particular direction these forums seem to be heading.

Any one sitting in another car would feel even the smallest touch if you dad slightly bumped it, they would have got out of the car to speak to you.

Just forget about it and do nothing
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
