E-On restricted tariffs no longer supported
Options
Hi. I am new to these forums. I need advise / guidance regarding E-on changing my tariffs which could result in an additional £749 to pay per year on top of my existing £924.
My property is a flat. I am all electric and have 2 meters; 1 for general use e.g. lighting and the other for restricted heating which provides 14.5 hours heating per day. I have 2x KW unit tariffs and 2 x standing charge tariffs.
E-on say they can no longer provide my existing tariffs and these will cease on 28.10.19. the options they have given me are:
1) unrestricted - no contract - no off peak - increase of £723
2) Change to one meter under Economy 10 - increase of £358 and 4.5 less hours heating per day and will require changing from 2 meters to 1 and paying by DD
3) Change to one meter under Economy 7 - increase of £217 and 7.5 less hours heating per day and will require changing from 2 meters to 1 and paying by DD
4) fix 1 year Summer 2019 V2 - fixed term tariff - no off peak - increase of £519
There appears to be nothing I can do about E-on changing my tariff as they have given me notice and this is described as a 'business decision' . However in terms of how I am expected to fund these large increases does not seem to be an issue to them.
Trying to deal with E on has been stressful, time consuming and I have been passed around from different departments including simpler meters and renewal tariffs and the complaints department. I have had to fight to obtain a break down of the individual tariff listings.
I feel trapped and don't know what to do for the best.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Option 3 is your only sensible option because if you went for option 2 - E10, this is another tariff that most suppliers don't support meaning that you cannot switch to the best available deals available across all suppliers.
eon will change your complex restricted hour tariff to E7 metering at no cost to you and then you will be free to search the market to switch to the best possible E7 deal, as I'm sure that you will not want to stay with eon after this "business decision"!
Unfortunately based on many similar threads on this forum the simpler metering team are next to useless, i.e. will tell you to consult an electrician, so do your own research before making contact to decide what is best for you and not best for them!
Get them to change your meter to E7 and then switch.0 -

Hello BFD2019 and welcome to the Forums.
I hope the post Mister G links to is of interest - thanks Mister G. I've spoken about these meters quite a bit recently and the following threads might also help.

It sounds like you've a Restricted Hours Tariff (RHT) metering set-up. These were designed mainly for all electric properties with storage heaters and water immersion heaters. Like your situation, RHTs involve two meters and two supply numbers (called Meter Point Administration Numbers on your bills). With RHT, there are a number of hours each day (14.5 in your case) where electricity for heating and hot water is charged at cheaper off-peak prices.
As you say, to work, one of the meters will be wired directly into the heating circuits at your home. This lets it automatically switch the heating/hot water on and off during the off-peak times. The other meter will record general usage such as lighting, TV, appliances etc.
We're phasing these meters out as we can no longer support them and are looking to replace them with a more up to date model. This project is being looked after by our Simpler Metering team who I think you've spoken to. As in your post, they'll offer various alternatives as I outlined in the above links.
I suspect Economy 10 is the closest to the current set-up. They give 10 hours of cheaper off-peak electricity for heating and hot water. This is split into three periods at night, during the afternoon and in the evening. With the latest two-rate Economy 10 meters, all electricity used during the off-peak hours will be charged at the cheaper rate.
As thorganby says, with Economy 10, the choice of tariff is limited; whereas with Economy 7 and single rate, there's a greater choice both with us and with the other suppliers.
Economy 7 also works with certain types of heating like storage heaters and electric water immersion heaters. Situations vary widely and it's important to asses each case individually as changing the meter can have implications for the heating and hot water. This is what our Simpler Metering team do. To be sure of the implications for your heating of whatever option you choose, you might want to consult a suitably qualified professional too. This is up to you.
Thorganby's right, meter exchanges under our Simpler Metering project are carried out without charge.
Please let me know if you want me to put you in touch with our Simpler Metering team. Drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll be happy to do this. Thanks BFD2019.
