Letter from Next

Hi everyone, my husband received a letter from Next saying he’d applied for a store account. Someone had obtained £600 of clothing from them in his name. The letter seems like a scam but he called Next from a number on their website. It’s a case of identity theft. They had his date of birth correct! Incorrect address though. If you receive one of these letters don’t just bin it, contact Next. I’m guessing using their online chat is the best way as phoning could cost you (check your provider). Next fraud were very helpful.

Phoning customer service lines should not cost you more than standard call rate - if you have a plan with inclusive minutes then calls to CS should be included. If they aren't then it sounds like the company have an unlawful consumer customer service number.

(Ian011 will no doubt be along soon to provide the context) ;)

So they used his name and dob, but a different address. How come the letter came to your house then, if the address on the account is different?

    Just thinking the same myself.
  • Had something similar happen to my daughter with Nathan One day a parcel with clothes turned up on our door step out of the blue.

They were clothes for an Indian lady. Not quite my daughters style.

After investigating it looks like her identity and card details were cloned and an account opened using an email address very close to my daughters.

The delivery address was changed to Manchester the other side of the country with the card registered to our home address. We think the details were lifted from her mobile when she upgraded with a well known mobile store.

    So it's easily done unfortunately.

Never thought about the address question. I only know what my husband told me and he explained fraud said the address was different. Maybe you can put a different delivery address but that would be a bit stupid for Next.

Searching the web he’s not the only one this has happened to!

As for cost of customer service number I only Googled how much to call 0333 with my mobile provider. It said free unless you’ve run out of minutes. Just making sure everyone checked their cost as it was a lengthy phone call.
