O/S Daily Thursday 17 October 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark and damp although not raining at the moment.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, LO veg and gravy. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but will organise whilst out today.

Now on days' off - so have the usual "to do" list to crack on with, I'll be visiting town first thing to go to the bank, building society and a couple of shops. Housework, ironing etc all needs to be done - not so easy when the weather isn't great - trying not to use the TD but easier said than done!

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. All is calm and dry outside but it feels rather nippy.

Well after my marathon 9 hour sleep I was back to a rubbish one last night, tossing, turning and clockwatching all night and I feel as though I haven't been to bed.

The 2 younger DGDs slept last night (older one at her dads) so they will be to waken up, feed and water shortly. Then get them organised for school. All 3 are back tonight, one after school, the other after her swimming club and the eldest when she feels like wending her way up here! Of course the usual Thursday tea is to make. I asked last night if they fancied anything different and they looked askance at me!

SCARLET I agree with you and everyone else, DGC are hard work. I have been childminding so DD could go to work (part time) for 15 years! OMG the eldest drove me a merry dance! The worst time was when DD went back to work after the third as I had two in nappies at the same time!! (They were born very close together) It does get a bit easier honestly!

Today is shopping day. DS is taking me. I did a biggish shop last week so don't need a great deal today, mostly f & v and dairy stuff. Might just go to Sainsbobs today as our Aldi is a small one and gets a bit congested on special offer day. Last Thursday it was manic!

Time to rouse the girls. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Cold here and raining and for most of the day I think. I didn't give blood yesterday as I got my paperwork out to complete and noticed its today ! So the quick dinner I got out for last night had to be eaten as there was nothing else out so I need to think of another quick one for tonight too! I think there is a pizza in there for OH and I will have a baked sweet potato with some ham and cheese with salad.

OH's dad is in hospital, we got a phone call yesterday evening, he had been to the Dr because of breathlessness and they called an ambulance and whisked him off to hospital ! we went and rescued his car last night and got that home and popped in to see MIL who cant cope well on her own, and OH will take some bits in today for him, they think he might be in for two or three days, they suspect a heart attack, but he seems hugely upbeat about it all, hopefully we will know more later today.

Tonight I need to put a wash on and will start to meal plan and write a shopping list for next week, OH will probably go and see his dad.

    Have good days all xx

Hope OH's dad is well soon redruby x

Thanks for your comments yesterday x After lunch yesterday, I suddenly felt exhausted but completely relaxed. I haven't done anything strenuous lately, so it must have been relief. My dentist was the one who referred me, he's also a personal friend and he said he wasn't worried. I know he has to be professional and be careful what he says, but he would've hinted something like don't postpone the appointment. So I didn't worry, but maybe subconsciously I did a little bit.

I only have one load of washing today, I'll put that on in a minute. I need to clean the skirting boards and get rid of the limescale in the shower.
Scamp wasn't on a lead for most of our holiday and he's strongly objecting to it being used again, so I'm having to re-do lessons for that :D

  • Good morning - it's cold here, time to get the winter dressing gown out, though I'm trying to hold out till November (don't know why)

Refruby, sorry to hear your OH's Dad is in hospital, hope he'll be ok.

TA, you've certainly done your stint of child minding! Our eldest grandchild in this country is DGS 13, and I was 58 and still working when he was born, retired 2 years later. DH was 60, and newly retired.

Now we are in the early 70's and feeling the strain!! Still, the youngest is a little sweetheart, he's just a toddler who is in to everything. As you say, it does get easier.

Taff you've been busy, don't do too much.

Feeling a bit better today, a couple of painkillers eased my aches and pains yesterday. We went and picked up the cardigans I'd ordered from M&*, they are lovely.

Today I must tackle the ironing. The washing fairy hasn't been round for a few days, so I'll summon her today. I know how to live,!

Hope everyone has good days, thinking of the sad and poorly.

    Take care folks xx

I've crept into the kitchen whilst the DGC are watching some early morning TV! They have been great, really well behaved and good company. We've been swimming, pumpkin picking and they have met little Sophie - DGS is surprisingly gentle and caring. We'll go to the park today as it looks like it'll be decent weather for this morning at least.

The washing is just finishing so that can go out for a while, we've been lucky with the weather. It's cold here but looks like the sun will shine very soon.

DS2 and his DGF are arriving tonight, they'll stay tonight then go to Edinburgh, they have a wedding on Saturday.

Hugs to you all, take care. XX

    Morning all.

Still no voice and now the streaming cold has arrived. Even though it's miserable I'm grateful that it should all be over before my op. Despite the misery I slept well, probably because of the painkillers.

DM wasn't too well either yesterday. She seems to have a pattern of a few good days followed by a couple of bad ones. Yesterday was a 'breathless' one so she stayed mostly in bed.

The delivery arrived on time. I cleared out one drawer of the freezer, one item was dated BB Jan 2012. Anyway, DM had one of the meals for lunch and declared it fine.

This morning is cleaner time. Once she's here I'll pop out for a few bits and bobs. I have an item to post so I've written a note for the counter assistant :rotfl:

Thoughts to all those poorly or struggling. Happy Thursday to all.
  • Good morning everyone,

Lovely morning in Manchester. Not a cloud in the sky. That being said, it's certainly still cold!

I stuck to my guns and went to yoga and the gym after work yesterday. I was even brought to the front of the class to demonstrate a pose which I'm fairly chuffed at because I was a complete novice this time last year. I was home for 7ish, had a call with my Step-Dad then made my dinner and watched some TV. Oh, had to buy milk for the office, so grabbed a snack whilst I was in, ruining my NSD
    Total spends: £1.80
    NSD: 7/17

No gym this morning. I tried a new alarm type this morning, where I had to shake my phone vigorously 35 times to turn it off but I managed it pretty quickly and was soon able to drift off again. Anyway, I've got a friendly game of football tonight which is interestingly being run by the company who rejected me last year. So I'm looking forward to seeing the guys who interviewed me!

RR - Hope DH's Dad gets well soon, it can be quite the shock hearing that news
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

I only care for my grandchildren when they are ill, I don't think I could do it full time I was still working when they were born so couldn't help then.

Today it is one year since Steve had his stroke, it's going to be a lo g and difficult day!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all! Set alarm for early rise and got up before it for a change.both cats are nodding off on the sofa separated by a cushion to avoid fighting..Bags are everywhere with lists of places to go to to remove them.
Tonights Stich and B1tch has been cancelled so will have more time to remove various items, OH is going to see his nan so the house is mine! All mine I tell you! I have made a pile for ebay so will have to get on with taking photos etc, but I'm not listing them till Sunday since most people don't work on a Sunday and it gives me more time to organise.
I might start chopping down the triffid rosemary today. It's been in the ground for nearly four years and it's 4ft in every direction, bought from Lidls as a baby plant it must have had growth hormones or something, or it really liked it where it is. I have another three rosemary bushes going strong so will not be losing out on it. I have two small olive trees to replace it and a pittisporum with lovely black stems and light leaves, thanks to the almighty Trago Mills garden center bit...Also have to plant out the cyclamen if I want colour in there next early spring...

Hope it's not too bad Hester..Good to hear everyone is mostly doing well apart from the sleep fairy and Gers streaming, day and night nurse capsules, expensive but good, or Tescos version of them, cheaper and almost as good....Hope everyone reading along is doing well as well as those not posting...Time to get up and go Thursdau

Managed to get out and back in before the spasms of coughing started. Felt really childish handing over the note to the PO assistant, think I’ve given her something to dine out on for a few days.

A little shopping was done, really needed milk and porridge oats mostly. DM has porridge made with Jersey milk and the oats soak up such a lot of milk.

Good luck to taff in the garden! The bloke who cuts my back lawn sent me a photo of it this morning. He’s also freed the fallen and choked mint pot - the roots had grown through the bottom of the pot into the ground. It’s a rampant plant.

HH - that year must seem so long for you. It’s certainly been a tough one for you both.

    Hot drink time now.
