15kw cooker

Anyone care to double check my figures for me? I've just picked up a 15.9kw electric range cooker and need my figures double checking before I connect it up.

Allowing for diversity (10 amps + 30% + 5 amps due to socket) would give 22.7 amp loading. The cooker circuit is already on a 32 amp mcb with 6mm t&e and its clipped direct with a total run of less than 0.5 metre.

Sound about right?

Minimum I would use would be a 50amp with 10mm cable, that's a big cooker. Looking at the possibility of everything in use 32amp and 6mm is simply not enough.

Is that taking diversity into account?
  • More importantly - what does the manual say?

A 32A supply is considered adequate for 15kW of cooking appliances. You are fractionally over that, but the idea that you need a 50A supply is nonsense.

You will probably find that all of those elements cannot actually be energised together, and even where they are they will cycle on and off.

So it's possible that a 32A supply will be adequate, although a 40A may be more appropriate. Really you need an Electrician on board.

    PS your calculation is incorrect.

You seem to have forgotten to add the 10A back in. 32.7A would be closer ...
