Had one quote from a well reviewed detailer just from pics that it would be "from around £250 upwards for decontamination clay incl machine polishing", upwards bit scares me.
So what's a claim going to cost you...?

    - The other guy pays in full.
Not-at-fault claim. Premiums increased for five years.

    - The other guy doesn't pay in full.
At-fault claim. Your excess. NCB loss. Premiums increased for five years.

    That "£250+" looking cheap yet?

    Detailers don't do anything rocket-science.

So by that then, parents are too blame if they hire a nanny and the nanny harms the child or adult children hiring a carer for their parent and the carer harms them?

If they hired an obviously drunk one yes.

Of course your sensible point might have been they saw no evidence of this before the git was onsite.

But you phrase it your way so people will argue with you if you prefer.

It doesn't require machine polishing. Buy a clay cloth or clay mitt such as the G3 clay mitt from Halfords and do it yourself.

    That could take hours.

Then what happens if it goes wrong - you end up rubbing too much paint off and it needs a professional respray? Do you think you'd get very far trying to claim that off someone else?

Get a professional to do it. They will know what they are doing. And you will have a bill to present to whoever you decide to sue.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

For £250, I'd damn well hope so.

Do you know what a clay bar is? Blutac is often suggested as a budget substitute. You would be INCREDIBLY hard pressed to damage paint with one. If you managed, that paint was probably faulty anyway...

Well, that's lovely, an' all - but I thought this painter was meant to be a clueless numpty without two pennies to rub together?

I bought meguiar clay kit and it’s coming off

I’ll pay to have car properly cleaned/protected myself after I finish this off

Sueing the painter will indeed go no where, a drunk numpty is best to description of him.

Owner i would love to take action again and just pay a professional but doesn’t seem it would be possible as he would just blame the painter? Not sure how’d that turn out in small claims court

Glad the clay bar is working. Hopefully with a clean and polish it should be back to A1 and you can just put it down to experience rather than waste time pursuing a fruitless case.

I found claying my car quite therapeutic and surprising how much crap comes off even on a seemingly clean car.

I see your experience of car detailing is limited. Claying a car with a clay bar will take time if doing the whole car and isn't always for the first timer but using a clay cloth/mitt is fairly quick, simple and pretty safe when done correctly. It won't take any longer than giving your car a good wash.

Well done for giving it a go. It is pretty straightforward once you know how :)
