My stepdad died on Monday (14th) my brother found his life insurance and it says they will pay in full if he dies on or after the 16th what is the chance that they will pay out

Sorry for your loss.
Insurance will pay out if cover was in place at the time of death. If its outside of the terms, even by an hour, cover will not exist.
Having cover after a specific date is unusual. Was it a clause on a policy due to medical information? What type of life assurance was it?0 -

Are you sure it doesn't say on death before 16th October 2019? Is that when the term of the policy ends and the cover terminates?

Is it one of these over- 50s type policies, with no medical questions asked and where the sum assured is only payable after 1 or 2 years and on death before then, there is a return of premiums?0
