Pet flap in Patio doors ?

Hi there,
I am moving into a new house next week and am wondering if a pet flap can be fitted into double glaed patio doors ?
Its my only option as the front door leads out onto a main road.
Has anybody had any experience with this problem ?
I have 4 animals and their toilet needs to address and am quite worried!!
TIA

Sorry, can't be done without having the door re-glazed with a new sealed unit with a 'hole' built in to fit a pet flap to.

That will also be very expensive.

As withabix mentions, you'd need to have the sealed unit replaced as the pet flap is inserted as part of the manufacturing process when they are making the new sealed unit for you.

I think I paid about £160 for a large sealed unit of a sliding patio door to be replaced with one containing a cat flap about 4 or 5 years ago, so this will give you at least some idea of cost.

If there is enough space for a flap to be fitted into a brick wall that gives access to the garden, this may be a better & cheaper option for you to consider. I couldn't do this myself as there is no expanse of wall where a cat flap could have been sited, otherwise I'd have had this done.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Hiya,
Just echoing the previous posters really but I had one fitted earlier in the year. I had one of the glass panels completely replaced, and it cost £150 + the cat flap.
I used to leave a window open, so for me it was worth every penny.

  • We have this problem ourselves, but have a UPVC single glazed door, or a really nice wooden door. I called the company that fitted the UPVC door for the previous owners a couple of years ago, and were advised that if anyone modifies it (and they mentioned companies that will specifically do this) it affects the 10 year warranty. If I wanted a new door - £550!!

I really don't want to spoil the hardwood door so the dilemma goes on.
  • We paid £200 a couple of months ago which included fitting, the glazed unit with hole cut into it and the cat flap.

My conservatory door is glazed at the top with a uPVC panel at the bottom and a dog flap installed into that. Can't help with price though as I had the conservatory built and the door done at the same time - most expensive dog kennel I ever bought! :rotfl:
