O/S Daily Wednesday 16 October 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.
Yesterday was dry but dull and cloudy all day, forecast says the same for this morning but rain again later. Air is cooler again.
Dinner last night was fish with HM egg and veg rice, tonight we'll be having pork, mash, veg and gravy.
Work wasn't so busy yesterday - so we'll see what today brings. I'll be on days' off after today but I'm working Saturday morning. I have all the normal "to do" list of things from tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Running really late so this will be brief, its raining again and off and on all day.
Off to work for me and giving blood tonight so will leave work a little bit earlier, sweet jacket spuds and left over chilli / spag bol tonight with salad and a sprinkle of cheese.
Better dash have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Another day with no voice and I have some calls to make. I'll have to see if the companies have a live chat thing on their web sites instead. I'm still drinking the horrible honey and lemon, even the doc said to have it. Yeugh!
It's still dark out there, think the clocks go back soon.
This morning the first delivery of W iltshire Farm Foods arrives. DM is looking forward to trying out the dishes. I still have to make room in the freezer.
For now I wish everyone a very happy Wednesday.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A wet morning here but to take up at lunch time. I have just slept for 9 hours, an unknown event for me. I think lack of sleep through recent events finally caught up with me. No doubt insomnia will be back tonight.
I had a nice meet up with my friend yesterday and we were joined by another friend from times long gone! She came in the coffee shop and spotted us. We don't go back as far as junior school days, as me and my friend do, but did go all through grammar school together and then lost touch. Much reminiscing was done! (Btw GERS it was Beer Battered Cod and triple cooked chips that tempted me yesterday!)
PROUD GRAN ALERT!!! My 2 youngest DGDs auditioned once again for a place in the Sunbeams at Bradford Alhambra and have again been accepted. It will be middle DGDs 4th time and youngest's 2nd. It's Snow White this time, with Billy Pearce as usual and starring Faye Tozer (ex Steps and SCD) and the remaining Chuckle Brother, It's such a beautiful old theatre and panto season runs for 6 weeks with never a spare seat. They are both thrilled to bits. The hard work of to-ing and fro-ing to Bradford for rehearsals and then the panto itself is hard work for DD but she just gets on with it.
Today I must do some neglected cleaning and the de-cluttering still awaits if I am fast for something to do! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone,
Happy Hump Day!
I had a networking event in the city centre yesterday which my boss drove us to, so I avoided spending on travel/parking. Was on track to bad another NSD until I got super hungry at around 3pm. You know that way were you feel a bit shaky? So I nipped to M&S to get a bit of yogurt and granola £1.50. Popped into the gym afterwards then headed home just in time to watch the GBBO and hit the hay.
Total spends: £1.50
NSD: 7/17
I've been to the gym this morning and I'll pop in for yoga at lunch too. If I'm feeling up for it, I might go after work to chill out/destress. No other plans this evening, so might as well. In fact, come to think of it, I've got a ton of ironing to do.
I've seen another job that I'd like, also based in London. Like the other one I seen a couple of weeks ago, it's a slight variation on what I do already and I think my CV is really relevant to it all, so I'm going to send it in and see what comes of it. Interestingly, both jobs will also have a little less pressure, which might help.
TA - Congrats to your DGD's!! Sounds like a pretty good cast, too!0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
Dull and wet here, the forecast was for some sun later but I remain unconvinced. Just as well that OH bought a second airer yesterday because the washing is constant and I have managed only one load of washing dried outside in the past fortnight.
OH and DS are out for the day so I'll do the Friday Tidy today, nobody to be annoyed by noisy hoovering. I would have preferred to be outside gardening but everything is soaking wet and raking up leaves in the rain is not my favourite thing.
We had 2 coaltits in the garden yesterday, plus some bluetits and sparrows, two magpies and those greedy pigeons, squirrels and rats. Just spotted a rat again, they don't come anywhere near the house though.
I need to walk up to the shop for the newspaper but am waiting until there is a break in the rain.
Gers, have you tried sliced fresh ginger in hot water with a little honey? Nicer than honey and lemon and works for me.
Nmlc we see to have had a broadly similar meal last night, lemon chicken with egg and veg rice. I didn't want my chicken so DS ate it, he eats huge amounts. And he is thin, I am not.
Have good days all.
ETA Congratulations to your granddaughter's TA and good luck SpekyI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

I was out of the house for almost five hours yesterday, all for a two minute appointment! It would've been a maximum of two hours in a car. I couldn't find a cheaper taxi price so ended up on the buses. Although I only had to catch two in the end, mr tru had to visit a customer late afrernoon and it fitted in with my timings, so my third bus was a lift in the works vanI ended up enjoying most of the journey, the second bus ride took an hour and it was along roads that I've been down lots of times before, but always in a car. On the bus, I was sat higher up and could see the views properly. It was a proper sunny autumn day, brown leaves falling off the trees, slightly hazy – like you see in photos but you never seem to see in real life, lol. But this time it was and I really enjoyed it.
My tongue has healed nicely, the results of the biopsy were expected to take another couple of weeks but they were in already. It's keratin. I said “that's not a thing, is it? I mean, I know it's a thing but it's not a problem thing?” Doc laughed and “no, it's a protein, it's in your skin” gave a bit of an explanation, and happily sent me on my way. Still no idea why I had an extra bit there but it's gone now.
Today is my first normal day for almost two weeks – I have nowhere to go and I'm on my own all day, I'm looking forward to itThe others will leave for work in a bit then I can get on with things. The house needs a good dusting and there's a couple of loads of washing to do. I want to make a start on sorting out the garden but it's very soggy out there, I might start at the sheltered end near the house and see how it goes.

TA - bet that fish and chips was tasty! And huge congratulations to your DGDs, what an achievement for them. Mind you, it's also down to the commitment of the folks who take them to classes and rehearsals as well as organising all the kit. It's a big effort all round!
AOD - it's the honey I hate. Think of it as bee vomit and the smell is just awful, however found that both the taste and smell can be smothered by the lemon so I can get it down. When I go out later I'll get some fresh ginger to try, thanks for the suggestion.
I'm just lazing and coughing. A hot shower will help clear out my tubes. :rotfl:0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I've been MIA for a while, life gets in the way, on top of caring for Steve, DD2 started a new job in September and two of her children moved up to the next school. This meant lots of new bugs and I usually provide childcare where I can.
Steve's medical incapacity dismissal has been delayed, his workplace, a school can't find the necessary two governors to attend the meetings needed, so more stress.
We've had days of incessant rain, Beano hates the rain so we've had to dodge the showers to fit walks in.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good news, Tru. I know you thought it would be ok but I'm sure there was a little niggle at the back of your brain.
TA, well done to the ballerinas.
Good luck on the job application, Speky.
After a couple of days of painting and sorting we're heading back home today. Steve has a hospital appointment tomorrow morning and then we might go on to see Laura. The next people here will be Chris and Crystal and her sister and fiance so I have to make a couple of beds before we leave. The plumber has put back the installation of the new shower by a week, hopefully it won't slip any more.0 -
Good aftrenoon all, it's damp and grey here, there'll be no washing going out.
To tell the truth I can't be bothered to do much, I'm aching and tired. We had Dgd yesterday for his usual Tuesday visit, and I wonder if I'm getting too old to run about after young ones. I had a bad night as well which doesn't help. Moan over, I'm sure I'll feel fine tomorrow.
Congratulations to your granddaughters TA, and to you for sleeping 9 hours! That's a marathon sleep, hope you feel better for it.
Gers, hope you soon feel better, it's miserable when you're not well.
We're popping to a nearby shopping centre to pick up 2 cardigans I'd ordered when I couldn't get them at the Metro Centre, will go to the tip as well which is near the shops, and that'll be it.
Tru. glad your tongue was ok, must have been a worry.
Nice to hear from you Hester.
Take care folks xx0
