The, admittedly few, cheques I've received in the past 18 months are blank on the back.

Perhaps turning off smile detection on the phone camera would allow it to focus on the cheque. Alternatively, draw a smiley face on the cheque. ;)

Getting focus on the blank back of a cheque could be difficult as the camera has nothing on which to focus. Making a mark on the back of the cheque might help, perhaps the receiving account number or something as simple as a straight line.

    Number on the back?

None of the cheques I pay in have anything on the back. Why would they?

Some cheques do have information on the back.

I assume this to be the case, as why else would a scan of the rear be required each time you pay a cheque in? But I can't think of anything that would be on there. ;)
