Have any other Xiaomi phone owners rooted their phone, while still using the stock MIUI ROMs?
In order to root, you need to first install a custom recovery (e.g. TWRP). But MIUI ROMs enforce some kind of encryption that breaks when installing a custom recovery. So you also need to flash some software to disable this encryption.
I followed a guide with a link to Magisk v18, and a (dodgy-looking) file called DFE (DisableForceEncryption_Treble_v18.zip) from a random file-sharing site. (Yeah.) But it worked!
I successfully rooted the phone, but I need to go through the same process to install subsequent ROM updates. I can find legitimate updates to all the software I need (the official ROM, TWRP, and Magisk) EXCEPT for a file/program like DFE that disables encryption.
I found an article that explains what I'm talking about in more detail, and "Lazy Flasher" seems to be a popular alternative to DFE. But I'm a bit confused about which method is best, and where to obtain official updates. :-/
What method do you use to update the stock ROM on your Xiaomi rooted device?
