M12 sleeve anchor for 12mm hole - is it me who is stupid or the manufacturer?

AFAIK, M12 means that the major (outer) diameter of the bolt thread is 12mm. If so, no way the hole can be the same diameter, can it?


And no, it's not Screfix's mistake. The same information is on the packaging. And yes, the actual major diameter of the thread is 10mm, not 12mm.

    M12 is the metric diameter of the sleeve. AFAIK this is normal with sleeve/anchor bolts.

    This may well be "normal", but certainly is very odd and confusing, as "M" is standard notation for threads, not tubes/pipes/rods where other symbol is used (crossed circle or D). Nobody would use 'M7' for a wall plug or 'M15' for a copper pipe.
