    You are correct. On 26 October 2015 the FCA banned banks, card companies and insurers from using premium rate 084, 087 or 09 numbers for contact by customers. The numbers that can be used start 01, 02, 03 or 080.

    All banks do now have compliant numbers. Check their official website for the new number. There are, however, some problems that may be encountered in a small number of cases. Some banks still have their old numbers running in parallel with no message telling callers to hang up and re-dial the new numbers. Callers get through on an expensive number and have no idea that a cheaper number could have been called. In other cases, there may be a few old numbers that are stuck in limbo with an endless queue to nowhere, the bank thinking the number has been cut off but their telecoms provider leaving it running.
