If you are earning under 50k then you are eligible for some of the council schemes.
Where can one find out about these things please?

Can you get HTB where you are?

Somebody I herd of just got 40% interest free for five years, that really helps to keep the housing price bubble inflated even longer......

This might sound a bit odd, but what do you do if you really want to own a property, you are both working but can't afford to buy where you live because it's so expensive?

You do what everybody else does who wants to spend more than they earn. You work at getting a better job.
  • As others have said, you need to earn more, lower your standards, move further out and commute, or find something like a shared ownership scheme.

You are not earning very much, so wanting to live in one of the most desirable places in the country won’t come easy, if at all.

We know you can’t officially combine HTB with shared ownership but if you claim universal credit and help with your mortgage payments then the government takes a share of your property depending on how much of your mortgage they pay.

The advantage is you don’t pay rent on the part ownership the government has unlike shared ownership schemes
The thing about chaos is, it's fair.

I am fromOxford and housing is pretty high , it depends whereabouts you are..go out towards Banbury and a lot cheaper but work is usually centralised in which case you will be at the top end of house prices.

On your income it doesn't sound as though you have careers that can't be changed for better income so either look at the cheaper areas or look at better prospects.

My youngest and her partner have managed to get a house in SE Oxfordshire but they have sacrificed pretty much everything to do so including children

I wouldn't do it myself, but you could vote Labour as a way to bring down house prices quickly.

    Which bit of Oxfordshire?

Most Oxfordshire issues are to do with commute and those who work in Oxford city centre. E.g. getting into Oxford from outside towns can take forever.

£250k will get you a 3 bed semi in towns like Carterton. Ok, it isn’t a petty Cotswold village, but it is practical with good bus links!

Dare I mention Littlemore or Blackbird Leys...!?

You need to decide what you want. What is important to you.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Move somewhere cheaper where housing doesn't fall into the category of fairy tale. Move out into the countryside
