Natwest account switch - stay clear!

Options
Stay clear of these, even though there is the £125 switching reward. By far the worse experience ever had with a bank, and worst account set up process ever.

In short, never get any communications on what your customer number or account number is - no email, letter, text - anything. You need these to logon for id, so you can't. You don't get any communication other than to send photo of your id, then nothing until account is created and your card arrives... and you still can't logon as you don't have account details!

Online chat is useless, they tell you to phone up. You phone up, and are told you will be emailed your customer number.

email 1- customer number is blank, email2 - the email is blank, email3 - same as email 1

Wonderful security they have with Natwest - not even the person who it belongs to is given the details to log into it (sarcasm!)

While this all going on, your current account switch about to complete, so you won't even be able to access your money.

STAY CLEAR OF NATWEST

  • TBH I don't remember too much hassle. I did have something, but they paid me compensation, so that was OK.

Like all these banks, there is always a risk things won't go to plan and it is mentioned on here time and time again: make sure you have a "backup" account, if it does. ;)

Mine went fine, so did the wife's but that was nearly 18 months ago. Now switch out to another incentive pay out.
  • Agree with Brewer20. If you aren't happy just use the account to switch to another paying an insentive.

I switched from Lloyds to NatWest just over a week ago. Faultless move with over a dozen direct debits and many standing orders all being transferred smoothly and all bills being taken on time.

Delighted with the switch plus the added bonus of a switch payment and cashback for certain direct debits.

For me all good so far.

Since I never switch either of my two 'main' accounts I'm not too bothered about hiccups along the way. I had reason to complain about my NatWest switch a couple of years ago in very early 2018. Turned a £125 incentive into a £235 incentive when £110 of goodwill/compensation was added.

Yes it should work properly, and first time, but for those of us not switching 'main' accounts the rewards are much better when it doesn't!
