Can I download direct from my PC music from either my windows media player library or from my downloads to transfer as a ringtone onto my smartphone.Js this possible and if so how would this be achieved. Otherwise I presume I will need to download the ringtone direct on my smartphone. What is a safe site. I was possibly thinking about Sweet Caroline. Android phone.Thank you.

  • iPhone or Android?

Edit: this is presuming it's an Android phone, if not try the iPhone equivalent for Zedge.
  • I not sure if this answered the OP's question as to whether you will be able to download recorded music that is in Windows Media player or in the downloads sections of file manager on a PC into a ringtone on a smartphone. Presumably if so you would need to plug your phone into one of the the PC's USB ports.

You could email it as an attachment too but it's what you do with it after that. Without knowing if it's Android or iPhone nobody can guide them through that step, despite the OP coming back they seem reluctant to give that info.

A modern Android phone like that should just be able to play an MP3 file as a ringtone no problem. You MAY need to put the file into a special folder for the phone to recognise it as a ringtone - owners can hopefully advise you on that, but for a first try, just put it anywhere on the phone (and know where you put it!).
Now, you mightn't want a whole song as a ringtone, especially if it starts quietly - you'll not hear it 'ringing'. So you might want to trim it a bit. A free bit of software for your computer, Audacity, is great for this.

This should be easy enough to follow, as said if you can't connect to a computer then just email it as an attachment. It will be in your download folder when you've saved it (you may be able to save it to the ringtone folder thereby skipping the file explorer step entirely).

May I please add a subsidiary question?

I have downloaded a couple of ringtones for my Moto 6 from the Zedge android app:
    • 'Warning: it's the wife' - specifically for when my wife is calling me
    • Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' (EU anthem) - for other calls, just in case Nigel Porridge is standing next to me in the bus queue
I would love to use some of the sax solos from early rock records (e.g. Little Richard, Fats Domino) but don't know how to do it. On an earlier phone, I used the piano solo from Elvis's 'Heartbreak Hotel' but don't remember how I did it.

Does anybody know of an app or website where I can do this? Many thanks.

'Warning: it's the wife', lol, I'm looking for that for myself now.

Audacity was mentioned earlier, you just need to download or rip the track you want and then trim it to suit. You can usually specify a lead in/out to make it a bit more professional. Save as an MP3 and then put it on the phone (usually the ringtones folder on Android at least.

Used Audacity for a long time, very easy to cut bits out of the middle of songs to use.

    Thanks, Colin.

I downloaded the Zedge app and selected this one. In the interests of equality, 'Warning: it's the husband is also available. :D
