Cheapest Xbox 360 + 20GB HD hunt

Basically, the newer "pro" consoles (v1.2) have an improved chipset that runs cooler hence the unit does not overheat as readily as the version 1 or "premium". I beleive that this was cited as the main reason for the red ring of death??. I have had both and can DEFINITELY say that my V1.2 is MUCH quieter than the v1.1 and I have had some pretty long sessions on xbox live (it truly makes the games!!!) and I have had absolutely no probs whatsoever, ALSO remember that MS are giving you a 3YEAR!!! guarantee for all consoles suffering the red rings so really theres nothing to worry about! :j . V1.2 units also have a HDMI connector to get true HD, this is on the box so they are easy to spot (is just asked to see the box prior to buying). HTH??0

any chance of a picture to show us exactly what we need to see?
it will be fun wont it asking to check the box to make sure it is the type i want.0 -
Not sure if this will work but here goes:

You are basically looking for the HDMI logo, other way is to look at the back of the box, if it says 175W power consumption instead of more than 200w its the newer falcon board = less likely to "pop"! I have ALSO been told that serial numbers greater than 700 at the front are also the new v1.2
Sounds a little complex so just look for the HDMI logo as per the pic. I just asked at argos and they let me look at it first as a product viewing, they even opened the box to let me see the actual unit (it had HDMI embossed on the back so I knew it was OK). One thing though, they assumed I was on about the Elite when I said new version on the 360, it took a LOT of explaining to get them to understand that there were 2 versions of the "premium/ pro" around, I still dont think they understood when i left but I was happy!!!
Does this help??0 -
thanks!
regarding the premium/pro thing i have a gut feeling that alot of shops dont have a clue about it. i bet some of the shops that say they are selling premium are really now selling the pro. in game there is no mention of the pro but surely they must be selling it.0 -
I think its more of a stock issue than anything else, as far as Im aware (and someone will no doubt correct me), I dont THINK that the "premium" is manufactured anymore, lets face it why would MS continue to make one knowing that they are a bit unreliable. Basically, if you are unlucky they might sell you an older "premium" from old stock, otherwise you will get the v1.2.

I guess you'll get a couple of red ring problems with the arcade, but they'll be much fewer than the old Core console would've experienced.andrewmoorcroft wrote: »are we saying the arcarde has red ring probs and you have to add the HD?
If you want a hard disk, you have to add it, yes. Only a 256mb memory card is provided as standard.
The premium will suffer red ring more than the new pro version, yes. But does come with a 20gb hard drive attached (somewhere between external and internal tbh - just plugs on the side)andrewmoorcroft wrote: »are we saying the premimum has the red ring probs and comes with a hard disk built in or external?
Yes, it's exactly the same (20gb hard disk), but with less-ring-of-death, a HDMI port and some say a little quieter.andrewmoorcroft wrote: »are we saying the pro is the replacement for the premium and has red ring improvements and comes with a hard disk built in or external?
No, getting any pro (ie a box with the HDMI logo, as above) will be fine.andrewmoorcroft wrote: »are we saying that even if you get a pro you still need to look for v1.2?
It's black too. (which makes it harder to get matching kit tbh)andrewmoorcroft wrote: »are we saying that the elite is the same as the pro but with 120GHD built in?andrewmoorcroft wrote: »Some adverts don't make it obvious whether it's an arcade, premium or Pro because i assume they can all be sold as a 20GHD package?
As has been stated elsewhere, it's just a case that most stores don't have a vague idea what's going on...and that's got to be MS's fault, I'd have thought. What they should have done is said "sell your old stock (Core/Premium) through cheap first, then start selling the Arcade/Pro versions instead. And change all your advertising. Here's some info for your staff to read".
That way the consumer would've seen the shift a lot easier and stopped a lot of these questions.0 -
Thanks Idiofreak.
I've had a look around and it seems that most are selling the premium and pro as the same thing. Game advertise premium but my local branch say they are giving people the premium unless they specifically ask for the pro which they also have in stock. I expect some shop staff have been briefed to get rid of the premiums 1st.
Best deal i've found is the HMV one - quidco - 10% student discount which appears to work even though its not meant to work on consoles.Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!0 -
Have you checked play.com? Just saw premium + halo3 + viva pinata + forza2 + wireless controller for £279 over there...sounds good...but student discounts always a winner...I got mine from Virgin (or should I say Zavvi?) using the same.0

its not that good. viva pinata seems to be a game for 5 year olds and forza 2 looks like one of the dullest driving games ever. i think the current pcworld/currys offer is a bit better. it includes a pro console plus halo 3, assassins creed and virtua fighter 5 for £279. personally i am waiting for an offer that includes at least two games i want for £250.0
