  • There are plenty of offers around at the mo for the 360. You need to get the "pro" console as its called now (used to be referred to as the premium) if you want the HDD, this is currently £250 at Game with two games, Project Gotham 4 and Fifa 08 I think (I can vouch for PGR4 but not Fifa, football loving nephew said it was a bitter disapointment???).

Anyway, its not quite as good as the Argos offer the other week but its still quite good. Dunno if Gamestation or play are matching/ beating OR if u have access to a student card Virgin/ Zavvi might be worth looking at????

If I see any more I will post back!!!

PS Just make sure you get a box that says HDMI on it (will be somewhere, mines on the side) this should then be the V1.2 console which is supposed to be quieter and less prone to the Red rings of death..... google it if youre not sure what I mean, theres loads of info!).

What's the difference between the 360 and the arcade? Don't want to buy the wrong thing!

THe main difference is that the "pro" or "elite" models come with a hard drive and the "arcade" doesn't.

This means a number of things:

    1) Saving games is more annoying without a hard disk (although I think the arcade comes with a memory card now to save stuff to)

    2) You can't play original Xbox games on the 360 without a hard drive.

    3) If you want to save much music, videos etc to the console, you'll be doomed without a HDD

Generally, I recommend the "pro" version - has enough storage but not too much - most people won't fill up the pro's hard disk, so why people need 6x more on the elite is beyond me :)
  • I am after this one

but halo 3 is out of stock at the moment. I called today and they said should be back in in a few days. As I am ordering on line how do I know if its HDMI?
Any comments on whether the package looks good value would be appreciated.
If anyone else buys this don't forget to go through quidco, it's not much 2 or 3% but it's something

Just checked again to see if anymore left. I paid £154 on Sunday for mine(said there were 6 in stock at the time) but it's now saying £300 for the same deal. Wonder if it was a misprice, I hope they honour the original price.

i was considering the offer at hmv that includes a pro console, need for speed street and halo 3 for £250. i have decided to wait for a better offer to come out coz i dont fancy need for speed street myself. hurry though if you are interested coz it ends tomorrow.
i wish i hadnt hesitated when woolworths and argos had that really good offer a few weeks ago.

regarding the ring of death thing cant we feel safe if we were to get a pro console as it is newer than the premium? most shops seem to only sell premium though.
  • thanks for the replies - so let me get this right...

are we saying the arcarde has red ring probs and you have to add the HD?

are we saying the premimum has the red ring probs and comes with a hard disk built in or external?

are we saying the pro is the replacement for the premium and has red ring improvements and comes with a hard disk built in or external?

are we saying that even if you get a pro you still need to look for v1.2?

are we saying that the elite is the same as the pro but with 120GHD built in?

Some adverts don't make it obvious whether it's an arcade, premium or Pro because i assume they can all be sold as a 20GHD package?

Anyone know the best offer at the mo please?

microsoft and retailers dont give us the most clear info do they? i would like to know the answer to most of those questions as well. although i think i can answer the first queston. the arcade is newer and therefore less likely i believe to suffer the ring of death problem. it has no hard drive so you would need to buy one to connect to it if you want to save game progress. you also need to buy a hdmi cable i beleive to get the hd quality.
